Optimal presents at symposium for PAT and QbD in solid dosage manufacturing

The VIAVI Solutions and IMA Active symposium: “PAT and QbD in the solid dosage manufacturing: NIR integration from an engineering perspective” will run from 23-24 October 2018 at the IMA factory in Bologna, Italy.

Optimal Industrial Technologies will deliver a presentation on how process analytical technologies (PAT) and quality by design (QbD) can benefit oral solid dosage (OSD) medication manufacturing at the symposium organised by VIAVI Solutions and IMA Active. During the talk, Optimal will also discuss the benefits of having a PAT software platform such as synTQ to implement these methodologies.

The Optical Security and Performance Products (OSP) division at VIAVI Solutions, specialises in spectral sensing instruments for material monitoring and testing, and IMA Active, is a manufacturer of solid dose processing and manufacturing equipment. The companies are partnering to organise the symposium on PAT and QbD approaches to manufacturing due their complimentary areas of expertise.

A workshop held at the event will provide attendees with an insight into near infrared (NIR) spectroscopy. Conference presentations will be delivered by leading experts in the field as well as practical sessions being provided on the application of NIR technology for quality assurance during various OSD manufacturing stages.

In line with this theme, the world’s leader in data management for PAT, Optimal, will explain how PAT can facilitate process optimisation in accordance with QbD principles, enable real-time release testing (RTRT), support the transition from batch to continuous processes for OSD form manufacturing as well as slash production times and associated costs.

An essential component to truly benefiting from a PAT working methodology is the use of a PAT knowledge manager such as synTQ, developed by Optimal. It provides a single, centralised platform to configure and monitor the spectral sensing instruments, analyse the data collected by performing multivariate analysis, interface with control systems and other apparatuses, as well as modify any process parameters.

During the presentation, titled “Use of a holistic PAT approach for quality-based control and RTRT on a continuous OSD production line” and taking place on Wednesday 24th from 12:00-12:30, Martin Gadsby, Director at Optimal Industrial Technologies, will also outline the benefits of choosing synTQ as PAT knowledge management platform. The software was designed to provide live quality predictions that help to develop and manufacture high-quality pharmaceuticals using real-time controls in live process environments. Thanks to these features, synTQ is widely accepted as a market leading tool and used globally by the majority of the world’s largest pharmaceutical companies.

Martin Gadsby commented: “We are delighted to present at the symposium in Bologna. The event is a perfect opportunity for manufacturers of OSD forms to learn how to significantly improve their production lines with PAT. With synTQ at the forefront of knowledge management frameworks and Optimal’s extensive experience in the sector, we can address development and production queries and help to determine an optimum implementation path. We invite anyone who has questions about using PAT as the basis for an enhanced control system to attend our presentation and talk to us.”
